Jennifer realized in elementary school that she enjoyed drawing and painting and had the ability to create shapes other than what was commonplace. This originality most likely evolved from a childhood of a constantly changing landscape. Her father in the Air Force was required to travel, and in conjunction, Jennifer was as well. She benefited from this by entertaining and developing her love of art and music.
She was born in San Jose, California and mostly grew up with divided time in Wichita Falls and San Antonio, Texas and Denver, Colorado. At the age of ten, she began a lifelong study of the saxophone, which has paralleled her study of art. After graduating high school she attended Utrecht School for the Arts in Utrecht, The Netherlands in 1992. She returned to Denver one year later to pursue her interests in the saxophone by attending Metropolitan State College majoring in both art and saxophone performance. Eventually consumed by the double major, Jennifer was forced to major in only music. Painting, however, remained in her life as it became an easy creative outlet separate from the strict regiment of music education.
After college, she decided to pursue self-education and expression in art, music and even poetry traveling throughout Arizona and New Mexico. She also landed herself into artistic jobs such as working as a cake decorator and finally settling in Denver working with hand gilded picture frames at Abend Gallery. Jennifer had her first showing at Abend in 2000 displaying her unique creations.
Jennifer continues to explore the constant changes of shape in her artwork, and prefers to be “driven by color”. Her medium of choice, acrylics, gives her abstract works imaginative vibrancy and fluidity. Today, Jennifer can be seen represented at Abend Gallery on a regular basis, consistently inventing new layers of free expression.
